Self care is most important foe healthy mind and body. The respect we show to our body is an act of survival and not selfishness or self indulgence. Self care becomes increasingly important as we age and especially for our senior citizens. A little attention to oneself helps a long way in helping one to handle the stress and loneliness one encounters , it prevents illness and also builds a positive mindset while dealing with old age and mental health issues.
The two aspects of self care are
⦁ SELF CARE OF THE BODY
1.Taking care of your health by exercising regularly which can be any form of activity , be it walk, yoga, or even light weight training or doing daily household chores which bring about NEAT- Non Exercise Activity Training which is the exercise we do while working at home.
2.Regular health checkups. It is essential to keep tab over your current health condition and take measures to prevent health issues in future.
3. Taking your prescribed medicines regularly and on time.
4.Balanced nutrition. Eating wholesome timely meals which includes fruits, vegetables, fibrous foods, whole grains and healthy fats along with adequate intake of water is important.
Active body leads to energetic and independent life.
⦁ SELF CARE OF MIND

⦁ Practice mindfulness, meditation and self reflection.
⦁ Indulge in arts, music, dance, drawing , gardening, reading or taking up a new hobby. Visiting places of interest like museums or going for outings like movies etc.
5.Sleeping well to relax. A rested mind and body is alert, energetic and always happy!
While most of us and our elders make sure we take care of our physical well being, we tend to neglect the care of our mind which resultsinn loneliness, depression , lack of confidence in old age and then impacts our physical well being too.
Lets all bring about a positive change in the lives of the Elders at home by taking care of their emotional and mental well being and involve them in activities which give them mental satisfaction and happiness.
